About us
Caerau Uchaf has the highest garden open to the public in North Wales. Although we are open to visitors for the season it is still very much our own garden, we consider you to be our guests. We started building in 1994 and keep adding to it now. We are Toby and Stephanie Hickish and we are always happy to talk to keen gardeners!
Some years ago now, we ran a garden design and landscaping business. We built Show Gardens every year, usually at the RHS Shows at Tatton Park and Hampton Court. The advantage of this was that we were able to salvage plants, garden structures and materials to use here. This helped the garden evolve quite quickly and made us keen to do more and more.
The Café is a big part of the place, we are very keen on good honest food and we aim to produce proper home cooked lunches as well as snacks, fresh cakes and great coffee. Most things are homemade.
It’s a family affair with daughter Evie in the café and looking after the shop and our Son Freddie has now taken on the farm with his family and started selling their produce in our freezers here, it’s early days.
We like to think this is a great place for families, it’s ideal with so many of our grandchildren here nowadays. All the separate spaces in the garden are fabulous for Children to explore with their map but there is more! Apart from the trampoline on the lower lawn, up In the woods above the garden we have space for hours of entertainment, old fashioned play: – there is a large wooden fort complete with drawbridge and portcullis! There are ropes and nets, an assault course and a zip wire all to aid the imagination.
CAER-EUNI FARM
We have recently started to market our own farm produce with our son Fred in charge, Beef, Pork and Lamb. Do see what we have on offer in the freezer.
CAFE
Food is our second favourite thing. We try to produce simple but good quality food. Stephanie makes the cakes and Toby most of the savoury things. The bread is homemade until it runs out, so are the chips. A lot of the produce comes from our farm, otherwise from our excellent local butchers T.J.Roberts and veg from Tony in Bala. Most people rate our coffee very highly too!
MEMBERS
We encourage anyone who spends time in the area to become members. Caerau Gardens members have access throughout the seven months of the year that we are open and are kept up to date with events and members only gatherings. The annual fee is equivalent to two and a half times the day rate.
BOOK A TABLE
We need an idea of numbers. We are a small set-up with a small car park and a very narrow track to get to us!
You won’t be booking a specific time and you won’t be paying anything when booking, just letting us know that you will want to eat. Book using this link.
Closed for Winter
The café and gardens are now not open until Easter. Hopefully we will have a few changes to show you! Watch this space for exact dates and we will look forward to seeing you then.
